Executive Letter
Dear Friends:

Welcome/Bienvenidos! Thank you for showing an interest in one of Santa Barbara's best-kept secrets, Zona Seca, Inc. For over 37 years, our agency has assisted over 60,000 people living in Santa Barbara and Lompoc who have had substance abuse problems.

We have been able to succeed in this accomplishment because of our community's dedicated volunteer support. Zona Seca's volunteers serve as board members. Their dedication and commitment to the agency's mission is the key to our ability to serve our clients and make a difference in their lives. The result of our agency's team effort and the positive change our clients make contributes largely to the enrichment of our community.

Over the past twelve years Zona Seca's focus has been to establish itself in the community as a social enterprise. We have been able to advance our mission through entrepreneurial earned income strategies. A central component of a social enterprise is earned income which allows us to operate the services and programs we offer our clients.

As we enter into the 21st century, client demands have determined the need to increase prevention, intervention, education and treatment services for youth, adults and families. If our community is to continue to preserve its quality of life, then it is incumbent upon public and private sector leaders along with philanthropists to take the challenge and continue supporting programs such as the ones Zona Seca offers, as well as similar programs offered by other nonprofit organizations

If you accept the challenge and want to help our agency, the program most in need of your financial support at Zona Seca is Youth CineMedia. As a result of Zona Seca's board of director's willingness to address the increasing problem of youth violence in our community, the Youth CineMedia Program has been added to Zona Seca's menu of services and programs. Because services in this program are provided at no cost to the participants we are asking for donations. Anyone interested in helping reduce youth violence, especially youth gang violence can help by giving a financial contribution to the Youth CineMedia Program at Zona Seca. Youth CineMedia is one of a unique few programs in the community reaching this particular "at risk population."

Our effective earned income strategies of the past have minimized the need for Zona Seca to seek out philanthropic support for our programs. Today, Zona Seca's Youth CineMedia Program is asking for your involvement and contribution. Every dollar you donate will be used exclusively for this program.

Sincerely/Sinceramente,

Executive Director
